The Senate committee on youth and sports is set to begin investigation on the denial of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to recognize the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation (PDBF) as national sports association or NSA.

The investigation has been set at 1 p.m. in response to Senate Resolution No. 551 filed by Senator Pia Cayetano, seeking probe on standards of the POC and the PSC in accrediting the NSAs.

In her resolution, Cayetano cited the refusal of the POC and the PSC to recognize the Philippine dragon boat team, despite winning five gold and two silvers in the 10th International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) World Championships last Aug. 3-8 in Tampa Bay, Florida.

Expected to attend in the Senate probe are POC president Jose ?Peping? Cojuangco and PSC chairman Ritchie Garcia as well as the officials of the PDBF.

The POC has removed all the rights of the PDBF as a legitimate NSA after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided to put the dragon boat under the canoe kayak which is an Olympic sports.

Due to the PDBF?s removal from the list of POC-accredited NSAs, the PSC has decided to give the funds allotted to PDBF to its mother NSA which is the canoe kayak.
