Lamborghini, the luxury automotive corporation, just recently unveiled their own interpretation of the SUV model, during the International Auto Show at Beijing. It?s the company?s first time creating this type of vehicle in more than twenty years.
The model has been named the Lamborghini Urus; the word Urus refers to a breed of bull which is now extinct. The vehicle is a 600 horsepower SUV and does not appear to have been inspired by any of the other Lamborghini cars in terms of its style. The rather unusual design is comparable to a large sedan; it is approximately 5.5 feet in height, and 16 feet long. Currently, this model is not mass produced, however it does have the potential to spell even greater success for the Italian luxury automaker in the coming years.
China has seen a huge surge in the popularity of SUVs, with wealthy drivers becoming more and more interested in expensive, eye-catching models which are big and bold. Last year alone, more than 2 million SUVs were purchased by Chinese drivers, according to research done by LMD Automotive. Lamborghini are thought to be using this rise in the popularity of SUVs to capitalise on their own version of the vehicle.
The company?s first attempt at the creation of an SUV was in 1985, when they revealed a limited edition of the LM002, which was not as wildly successful as they might have hoped. However, Lamborghini are said to have high hopes for their latest SUV model, whose rivals include the luxury automaker Bentley, who also unveiled their SUV during the same Auto Show in Beijing. Porsche, another competitor, has been manufacturing their Cayenne SUV for almost ten years now and will be a tough act to follow for Lamborghini.
The Urus has all of the daring, attention-grabbing features of a standard Lamborghini, with one exception; it does not have the upward opening doors, which many consider to be the signature style of the company. As of yet, Lamborghini have made no official plans to proceed with manufacturing the SUV on a very large scale, however there will be a limited amount of these vehicles available in the Middle East, Russia, the UK, the USA as well as in China, where the company is expecting to make most of its profits. Lamborghini representatives have stated that sales will most likely be in the region of 3,000 per year.
There?s no price tag announced yet, but it?s safe to say the price of it will be hefty. If you plan to buy a Urus, you also can start looking for a good car insurance (maybe www.warrantywise.co.uk if you read from the U.K.).
