Marie Callender?s closes 3 Washington state restaurants

After closing the doors of all three of its Washington state locations Sunday, restaurant and bakery chain Marie Callender?s announced today that its parent company, Perkins & Marie Callender?s Inc., has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Both actions came as a surprise to employees and customers alike. Sunday afternoon, staffers at the locations in Seattle?s Northgate, Federal Way and Spokane were told to have patrons leave immediately, interrupting meals and even a birthday party at the Northgate location.

?This was a very difficult decision to make. We certainly apologize to any guests in the restaurant,? said corporate spokeswoman Vivian Brooks, according to KOMO News. ?There are certainly a variety of factors that go into the decision-making process. I can?t go into that specifically. It is a well thought-out but a very difficult decision.?

There were an estimated 100 people employed by Marie Callender?s between the three locations in Washington state.

Perkins & Marie Callender?s Inc. has filed at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware.
