Golf scramble to raise funds for Falls youth hockey

by KEVIN BONESKE, Sports Editor International Falls Journal

A nine-hole golf scramble to raise money for the International Falls recreational youth hockey program is scheduled for Aug. 18 at the Falls Country Club.

Kevin Erickson said the golf scramble is being held for the first time this year to help offset expenses in the local hockey program for boys and girls ranging from ages 4-14.

?Hockey?s an expensive sport,? he said.

Erickson said letters have been sent out to hundreds of Falls hockey alumni from as far back as the 1960s to urge them to participate.

?We?re looking for alumni to give back to the community,? he said.

Erickson said a foursome would be able to participate for $200, plus $7 per person for the dinner following the round of golf.

?If we would get 30 teams, that would be awesome,? he said.

Erickson said others besides hockey alumni are invited to participate in the golf scramble. He also noted registration the day of the event starts at 3 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. ?shotgun start? for the golf scramble, dinner at 6 p.m. and the presentation of awards and prizes at 7 p.m.

In addition to signing up the day of the event, Erickson said people interested in participating in the golf scramble may contact him beforehand via e-mail at guiderainylake@gmail.com or by calling (218) 324-1035.

Erickson said he hopes the golf scramble will develop into the primary fund-raiser for the recreational youth hockey program.
