Funds boost flood recovery for Palmwoods sporting ... - Andrew Powell

The Queensland Government has approved a sports club in Sunshine Coast to receive $22,500 in funding after flooding and storm damage earlier in the year.

?Member for Glass House Andrew Powell, said Palmwoods Western Districts Junior Rugby League Football Club Inc. would receive funding under the Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Program to repair a damaged sporting field.?

??Many sport and recreation clubs in Queenslandwere impacted by the storms, heavy rain and floods earlier in the year, and this is why we are assisting with the recovery process.

??Sport and recreation clubs are an important part of every community in?Queensland and?it is important to rebuild them as they are usually a hub for social activity,? Mr Powell said.

??The funding being provided will help the club recover and rebuild sporting infrastructure.?

?Sport Minister Steve Dickson said the funding program would reinstate damaged facilities and help to get clubs back on their feet and operating normally.

?Mr Dickson said the Queensland Government would continue to provide assistance to communities through the new $16 million Get in the Game initiative.

??Get in the Game is all about providing better equipment and facilities, and giving children and young people an opportunity to play sport when they might not otherwise be able to afford to participate,? he said.

?Get in the Game will focus on grassroots sport ? which we believe is the key to achieving positive sporting outcomes for our state.?
