Storm deaths in Mexico raise Arlene's toll to 16 (AP)

VERACRUZ, Mexico ? Five more deaths from Tropical Storm Arlene were confirmed by Mexican civil protection officials on Monday.

The total official death toll from the storm was raised to 16.

A farmer and his son were killed trying to drive across a flooded bridge in the town of Zentla in the Mexican state of Veracruz on Friday. A relative in the car managed to escape and informed authorities.

Authorities in the northern state of Tamaulipas said Monday two people drowned in the town of El Mante and other person died in the city of Altamira. The government did not give more details on the deaths.

Arlene was the first named storm of the 2011 Atlantic season. It came ashore as a tropical storm and broke apart like a water balloon over the highlands of central Mexico.
